December 17, 2013:  Language Arts:  Students reviewed Simple Solutions pages 104 & 105.  Students worked on a problem solving assessment.  Also, students had a conference on their RIT band score for the upcoming NWEA MAPs test in January.  We discussed score they had and what their goal will be.  Students started a lesson on common and proper nouns in English.

December 5, 2013:  Language Arts.  Students listened and read the story Passage to Freedom. Students answered essay questions from the story. Students reviewed practice book page 38 and simple solutions pages 92 & 93.

Students will be going on a field trip on February 14, 2014 to see a play at DePaul University.  The story goes along with a novel we will be reading and is aligned with our unit.  Please sign the field trip form and send money by December 18, 2013.  Money has to be in at DePaul by January 1, 2014 with the contract.

September 18, 2013:  Language Arts:  Students worked on Simple Solutions and Practice Book.  Students worked in groups and continued reading the story "The Last Summer with Maizon" and answerered comprehension questions.

  • Write a story for each vocabulary word for this week's story.  Make sure you circle vocabulary word and underline context clue.
  • Test on Friday: Story - The Last Summer with Maizon - comprehension, selling and vocabulary
  • Book report due tomorrow on Dinosaur Ghosts, page 190.  Template is on line next to my homework blog
  • Students keep a daily journal in class.  This will be graded tomorrow.  They have to have the date, questions restated and answer to receive 25 points. :)

August 30, 2013: Classwork, Homework & Notificaitons

August 30, 2013:  Language Arts:

Classes were shorter today due to a wonderful assembly put on by our leadership team.  For this reason, students had more time to work on pages 4 & 5 Simple Solutions workbook.  I did collect final draft from essay.  Students that were late will lose 2 points out of 15.

  • Students took a practice spelling test today and have to write each one they got wrong 5 times each for homework, refer to page 201 PB for correctly spelled words. 
  • Students were introduced to vocabulary words for the next week.  The homework for the vocabulary graphic organizer will be due on Wednesday, since we did not have time to cover all the words.
Thank you to all the parents for completing all the forms.  Sixth grade had a 100%.

August 29, 2013:  Language Arts:  Today students worked on kinds of sentences from their English Book, finished essay on school's mission statement and began to work on vocabulary, using context clues.

Make sure you take advantage of having the opportunity to buy a tile fundraiser for our new technology lab.  Buy a tile, decorate it and it will be placed in the hallway walls of the new building. Forms our on the Hale School website.

  •  Today, students were introduced to SRA lab, Simple Solutions workbook and Buckle Down Language Arts workbook.
  • Students worked on their five-paragraph essay.   At this point student should be finishing up their rough draft and will have 30 minutes in class on Thursday to finish.  If they do not finish in class will be for homework.
  • Remember to hand in lunch form and emergency forms by Friday.

August 27, 2013:  In class today students are working on a five-paragraph essay using Nathan Hale's Missions State on how to become college and career ready. Students are working on the rough draft and will have class time on Wednesday.  The final draft is due on Thursday.  If they are unable to have it proofread and delays their final draft, they will be able to turn it in on Friday.

Do not forget to complete all forms, including lunch forms and turn in by Friday.

Hard cover books need to be covered by Friday, August 30, 2013.

  • Everyone that returns their lunch form by Friday, August 30, 2013, will get a Popsicle at recess.

Students should be bringing back the following books:  Engliish, reading, practice book, simple solutions, and the novel they have been reading the past 4 weeks.  Students that do no bring back there books, will be charged accordingly. 

Students need to bring the field trip from back for Parisis and $.50.

We will be having a pizza party the last day of school. Please have students bring in $2.00.  Students may also bring in treats if they would like.

Field trip 3/19/2013:  Students will get to dress in their spirit clothes and dress warm for walk.  Make sure you bring bag lunch and snack for later.

Classwork, Homework & Notifications 3/8/2013

Language Arts:  3/8/2013:  Students were assigned a creative assignment to create a symbol on their own on the them "Courage."  In addition, they chose a topic (given in class) that addresses different aspects of courage.  From this topic, students are going to write an essay.  The essay must be 2/3 page in length. This assignment is due on Tuesday, March 12, 2013.  This is worth 15 points.

Field trip to Kennedy High School has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 19, 2013.

Bring in your Box Tops for the contest. ;)

Questions for Perfomrance Assessment on the novel "The Whipping Boy"
1.  Jemmy wants to stop royal households from keeping whipping boys.  List and explain three reasons Jemmy will use to convince royal families to stop using whipping boys.
2.  Do you think it is fair/or unfair for Jemmy to serve as Prince Brat’s whipping boy?
3.  What is just or unjust for Jemmy to be punished for the defiant acts that Prince Brat performed?

Language Arts:  2/11/2013:  Students were told their current grade today and assignments they can correct or make up.  Students for homework this evening, lesson 24, Simple Solutions and complete graphic organizer for the performance assessment they are worlking on for the story "The Whipping Boy."  . Students will be completing a 5-paragraph essay with the graphic organizer and this will be worth 32 points both for reading and wrting.  Make sure you turn in your graphic organizer, rough draft and final draft when you complete the assginment.

Language Arts:  1/4/12:  Students are working on a 5-paragraph essay on their New Year's resolution. 
Triangles:  Rough draft and final draft are due on Tuesday.   Ocatgons and Hexagons:  Rough draft and finak draft are due on Monday.

Some students have not turned in their extended response on video games.  This was due before Christmas.

Next book report is due on January 16, 2012.  Students will be able to choose their own book.

Make sure you include:  Title, author, genre, setting, character and traits, main event, problem/solution and conclusion.

Turn in your progress report if you have not done so.
