March 31, 2014: Classwork, Homework & Notifications

March 31, 2014:  Language Arts:  Student took a pre-spelling test, page 149 practice book 2.  Students worked together in groups reading "First Lady in Flight" and answered comprehensions, using evidence to support their answer.

Homework:

  • write missed spelling words 5 times each
  • Simple Solutions pages 180 & 181
  • Study root words/vocabulary for test on First Lady in Flight on Wednesday

March 27, 2014: Classwork, Homework & Notifications

March 27, 2014:  Language Arts:  Students worked on spelling Practice book page 227 and reviewed this page.  Students reviewed lesson 88 Simple Solutions.  We read pages 147 & 148 in the story First Lady on Flight and answered comprehension questions using R.A.C.E.

Homework:

  • Simple Solutions pages 178 & 179
  • Study for spelling test tomorrow
  • Reading/vocabulary/root word test next Tuesday or Wednesday
End of quarter tomorrow.

March 26, 2014: Classwork, Homework and Nortifications

March 26, 2014:  Language Arts:  Students made a journal entry, reviewed Simple Solutions pages 174 & 175.  Students worked on Practice book page 229 for spelling.  Students gook notes on what is a pronoun. Students began reading story, "Last in Flight" page 145 & 146 and answered comprehension questions.
Students worked in groups working on SRA/Vocabulary.

Homework:

  • Simple Solutions pages 176 & 177
  • Write a story using five vocabulary words.  Make sure you underline vocabulary and highlight context clues.

March 25, 2014: Classwork, Homework and Notifications

March 25, 2014:  Language Arts:  Students made a vocabulary journal entry, reviewed Simple Solutions pages 172 & 173.  Students worked on spelling practice book page 228 and were given two new root words for and upcoming test.  Students were introduced to our new unit "Courage" and discussed how courage makes a difference.  Students were introduced to this week's story, "First Lady of Flight."

Homework:

  • Simple Solutions pages 174 and 175
  • Study root words and spelling for test

March 24, 2014: Classwork, Homework and Notifications

March 24, 2014:  Language Arts:  Students made a journal entry on new unit "Courage."  Students took a pretest on this week's spelling words, practice book page 227.  Students took a root word assessment.  Students were given this weeks vocabulary with definition.

  • Simple Solutions pages 172 & 173
  • Write missed spelling words 5 times each
  • Complete vocabulary graphic organizer

March 20, 2014: Classwork, Homework & Notification

March 20, 2014:  Language Arts:  Students worked on Practice book spelling page 214 and reviewed it.  Students began taking 3rd quarter benchmark test and will be continuing through tomorrow.  Students will begin Walking the RIT for Math today.  Students will work on specific skills that will help them with MAPs testing in May.

Homework:

  • Study for root word/spelling test tomorrow
  • Complete performance assessment for the story "Number the Stars" due on Friday

March 19, 2014:  Language Arts:  Students worked on Practice book page 213 for spelling.  Students continued working on their performance assessment for the novel Number the Stars.  This will be due on Friday, March 21, 2014.

  •  Study root words and spelling for test on Frida
  •   Finish working on performance assessment and you need to include:
    • graphic organizer
    • rough draft
    • final draft

March 18, 2014: Classwork, Homework and Notifications

March 18, 2014;  Language Arts:  Students finished up two short extended responses the worked on yesterday using R.A.C.E.  Students reviewed page 212 practice book spelling.  Students went over homework Simple Solutions pages 168 & 169.  Students began working on performance assessment with a partner.  They will write a graphic organizer, rough draft, and final draft.  This will be due on Thursday.

  • Study spelling and root words for test on Friday

March 17, 2014: Classwork, Homework & Notifications

March 17, 2014:  Language Arts:  Students reviewed new spelling words for this week's test on Friday.  Students discuss the importance of finding a purpose when answering a question.  Students took a pre-assessment and chose two of six questions to answer from the novel, "Number the Stars."  Students were graded on how well they supported their answer.

Homework:

  • Simple Solutions pages 168 & 169
  • Write missed spelling words 5 times each
  • Collecting journals this week for a grade

March 13, 2014:  Language Arts:  Students will finish reading the novel "Number the Stars."  Students completed practice book page 199 reinforce spelling words for this week.  Students worked on main idea in Buckle Down workbook.

Homework:

  • Study vocabulary, root word and spelling for test on Friday
  • Make sure your complete your book report "The Great Wall" page 390 using Exposition format I gave you.
  • Complete any missing assignments, end of quarter in two weeks
Please turn in progress reports signed.  Four students still need to hand in.

March 12, 2014:  Language Arts.  Students made a journal entry, completed practice book page 198 and reviewed Simple Solutions pages 162-165.  Students worked in groups reading chapters 15, 16 & 17 in the novel "Number the Stars."

Homework:

  • Write a story using this week's four vocabulary words.  Underline the vocab word and highlight the context clue.
  • Simple Solutions pages 166 & 167
  • Study vocabulary, spelling and root words for test on Friday
  • Book report "The Great Wall" page 390 due on Friday.
We will continue ISAT testing on Thursday.  Make sure you return your child's progress report.

End of 3rd quarter in two weeks.

March 10, 2014: Classwork,Homework & Notifications

March 10, 2014:  Language Arts:  Students took a pre-spelling test for this week's test on Friday.  Students made a journal entry and vocabulary entry in their journal. I will be collecting journals next week. Students were introduced to two additional root words.  Students reviewed lesson 79 and 80 in Simple Solutions workbook.  Students were introduced four vocabulary words for this week's chapter 14-17, "Number the Stars," novel.

Homework:
  • Write missed spelling 5 times each
  • Study first 15 root words, vocabulary and spelling for test on Friday
  • Book report "The Great Wall," page 390 is due on Friday.  Follow format given in class

March 6, 2014: Classwork, Homework & Notifications

March 6, 2014:  Language Arts:  Students took Reading Session Three ISAT test today.  They will start there Math ISAT testing tomorrow.  Students worked on Practice book pages 178 & 179.  This was a review for spelling quiz tomorrow.  Students reviewed Simple Solutions pages 158-161.  Students completed Simple Solutions pages 162 & 163.  Student were assigned a book report.  "The Great Wall" page 390.

Homework:

  • Complete you extended response if you did not already do so.
  • Study spelling and first 13 root words for quiz on Friday.
  • Begin working on your book report "The Great Wall" page 390.  Make sure you follow format given to you in class.  This format is also on Hale website.

March 4, 2014: Classwork, Homework and Notifications

March 4, 2014:  Language Arts:  Students took ISAT Reading Session I today.  Classes were only 45 minutes in length.  Students completed practice book page 177 and reviewed Simple Solutions pages 156 & 157 and worked on extended response essay we started in class yesterday.  Students also learned two additional root words for test on Friday.

Homework:

  • Complete Simple Solutions pages 160 & 161
  • Study this week's spelling words and affixes for this week's test.  
  • Work on extended response, will be collected in class on Wednesday.
Please return progress reports signed, hand in missing projects and assignments.  

ISAT testing is scheduled March 4, 2014 through March 14, 2014.  Attendance it crucial during this period.

March 3, 2014:  Language Arts:  Students took a pre-spelling test page 177 practice book two.  Students reviewed pages 154 & 157, and students reviewed steps and began writing an extended response.

Homework:

  • Simple Solutions pages158 & 159
  • Write missed spelling words five times each.
ISAT testing starts Tuesday, March 4, 2014.  Make sure you get a good night sleep, eat a good breakfast and be one time.  Testing will last through March 14, 2014.  Attendance is important.
