April 30, 2015:  Students learned a new vocabulary term for figurative language and have the opportunity to do extra credit by providing three examples.  Students took Simple Solutions quiz and had the opportunity to work on vocabulary assignment using five vocabulary words from this week and writing a story or work on their myth which is due on 5/5.

Homework:

  • Myth due 5/5.  Make sure you have a cover page, 5 written slides for your story and a reference page
  • Vocabulary story using this week's vocabulary words, underline vocabulary.
  • Extra credit for synedoche:   three examples

March 11, 2015:  Students worked on practice book pages 31 & 33, with the exception of 317.  317 tested in reading today for the PARCC test.  Students read chapter 7 & 8 in the novel "Number the Stars."

  • Students were given a permission slip for field trip on April 23, 2015.  We are asking that the students return this form and money no later than March 31, 2015.  Students will be viewing a play performed by DePaul University at the Blackstone theater.

March 4, 2015:  Students reviewed practice book page 30 for spelling test on Friday.  Students in room 317 reviewed Simple Solutions #74.  Students in 315 & 316 worked on prefix/root word activity.    Student had about 35-40 minutes two work on their Student Treasures story.  Students will also begin doing a small presentation on their story.  Students that do not have their book tomorrow will lose 1/2 the points.  They have had 5 weeks and class time.

March 2, 2015:  Students took a pre-spelling test, had two journal entries vocabulary and today's objective,  Students reviewed last week's prefix and root words.  Students began reviewing vocabulary for this week's reading chapters 5-11, Number the Stars.  Students completed unfinished tests, quizzes and worked on their Student Treasure story.

February 23, 2015: Classwork, Homework & Notifications

February 23, 2015:  Students made a vocabulary entry on the word concur.  Students were given a prespelling test.  These words will be on the haleschool.org website.  Students will be doing the practice book pages in class for volume two.  Students participated in an activity reviewing vocabulary (academic, instructional and story elements.  Students read chapter three "Number the Stars" and started to answer two comprehension questions.

February 20, 2015:  Students reviewed Simple Solutions lessons 68 & 69.  There will be a quiz next week on Simple Solutions 69-72.  Students reviewed comprehension questions chapter 1 for the novel "Number the Stars."  Students read chapter 2 discussed the chapter and began reading chapter three.

Student Treasure book due date has been changed to March 5, 2015.  After that date, you will receive half the points.  Remember you will get two book reports 10 points each and writing grade 40 points.

February 18, 2015:  Students had  a quiz on last night's root word and prefix.  Students worked on their Student Treasure book (rough draft) and this is due on February 27, 2015.  This will be a writing grade for 40 points and 2 book reports for reading 10 points each.  Students will also be presenting their book.  Reviewed Simple Solutions lesson 68.  There will be a Simple Solutions quiz next week.

February 9, 2015: Classwork, Homework and Notifications

February 9, 2015:  Students took a pre-spelling test on practice book page 183. Students were given packets for writing Student Treasure book.  This will be due on February 26th and it is worth 46 points and two book reports.  Students will be expected to do a small presentation of the book they wrote.  These books will be published for free by the company Student Treasures. Students were introduced to entire book packed and went over each step carefully.  Students may write a book or poems, recipes, story, how to book, etc.  Students will be given time for 45 minutes on each Wednesday to finish their book.  This needs to be done at home in order to finish.

February 5, 2015:  Students made a journal entry and vocabulary entry.  Students reviewed Simple Solutions lessons 61 & 62.  Students watched a video on the history of jazz and gained an understanding the contribution history of African Americans have made to our culture.  Students worked on story elements Buckle Down workbook.

January 16, 2015:  Students worked on journal entry and discussed the upcoming reading and math NWEA test that is upcoming.  Students reviewed Simple Solutions lesson 52 and took notes on the various ways you can use context clues to understand/comprehend vocabulary words.

January 12, 2015:  Students worked on journal entry for the end of the story Middle School.  Students worked on finishing questions for the story Turning Point.  These will be due tomorrow and students that were absent Tuesday and Friday, this will be due on Wednesday.  Students worked in groups on two new root words and two new prefixes.

January 6, 2015:  Students reviwed ojbectve and purpose for today's lesson.  Students reviewed Simple Solutions lesson  46.  Students reviewed how to annotate text and read a complex text on Women's Rights. Student discussed, annotated and answered comprehension questions.

  • Read chaptes 76 to the end in the novel Middle School
