September 30, 2014: Classwork, Homework & Notifications

September 30, 2014:  Students finished reading chapters 1 & 2 in the novel, The Watsons Go to...  Students reviewed lesson 12 in their Simple Solutions workbook.  Students have the opportunity to correct their quiz from yesterday.  Reviewed vocabulary and spelling for test tomorrow.

Homework:

  • Study vocabulary and spelling for test tomorrow
  • Corrects for SS quiz due tomorrow
  • Read chapters 7-11 Middle School

September 29, 2014: Classwork, Homework and Notifications

September 29, 2014:  Students took a quiz on Simple Solutions.  Students read the novel The Watsons Go to Birmingham 1963 and answered questions in groups.  Students will be taking a comprehension/vocabulary/spelling test on Wednesday.  Student journals were also collected today and will be a writing grade.

Homework:

  • Study for test on Wednesday (comprehension, vocabulary and spelling)
  • Simple Solutions lesson 12
Progress reports will be going home next week.

Students have been given a letter from the office on the situation that happened at Fleming School yesterday.  As a result, the school took precautions and kept the students in today.

September 24, 2014:  Students in 315 worked on context clues.  They viewed a short video and worked in Buckle Down workbook.  Room 317 is taking reading portion of NWEA test today.  Room finished new vocabulary words, viewed video on context clues and worked in Buckle Down workbook.

September 23, 2014:  Room 317 and 315 were introduced to novel Watsons Go to Birmingham--1963.  Students discussed the theme and read chapter 1.  Room 316 was introduced to this week's vocabulary words and created a graphic organizer.

September 22, 2013: Classwork, Homework & Notifications

September 22, 2013:  Students were presented with this week's vocabulary and completed a graphic organizer.  Students also learned about internal conflict and external conflict for the new novel they will be reading, "The Watsons Go to Birmingham - 1963.  

Room 316 took the NWEA reading practice test today and do not have homework.
Room 317 will take NWEA test on Wednesday.
Room 315 will take NWEA test on Thursday.

September 18, 2014:  Students worked on CPS Reach Assessment/Performance task.  This performance task was very similar to what the students have been working on this past two weeks. Main idea, citing evidence and analyzing their evidence to support their answer.

September 11, 2014:  Students reviewed practice book and Simple Solutions homework.  Students reviewed different terms for literary elements on a PPT.  Students were split into groups and read, answered comprehension questions and shared out in the classroom.

September 10, 2014:  We reviewed practice book homework for spelling and some of the Simple Solutions for writing and reading.  Students started to read "Where the Red Fern Grows" and discussed the Great Depression.  Students answered comprehension question using the acronym R.A.C.E., using evidence.

September 8, 2014:  Students took a pre-spelling test for Friday's post test spelling and reading test on Where the Red Fern Grows.  Students had 20 minutes to work on their final essay "Mission Statement.  Students stared working on this week's vocabulary words.

September 5, 2014:  Students completed their rough draft for the five paragraph essay.  Final draft is due no later than Tuesday, September 9, 2014.

We will be starting our first quarter unit on Monday.  Students will have weekly spelling and comprehension tests.

Language Arts: September 4, 2014

September 4, 2014:  Language Arts:  Students are working on a five-paragraph essay on Hale's Mission Statement, "College and Career Ready."  The ideas they are working on for the body of their essay is high academic standards, behavior and community involvement.  Students have today and tomorrow to work on in lass and the final draft will be due on Monday.

Thank you to all the parents that turned in their emergency forms and emailed the teachers.  We want to keep the lines of communications open.

Homework:

  1. Work on rough draft for essay.  Talk to your parents and get ideas
  2. Turn in packet with forms
  3. Email the teachers
